ABSTRACT
In this study, we have explored the elastic and thermal properties of Lanthanum Sulfide (LaS) crystal. First, we evaluated its second- and third-order elastic constants (SOECs and TOECs) and then the values obtained for SOECs and TOECs at different temperatures are used to compute the Gruneisen numbers (GNs), and Non linearity parameters (NLPs) along the different crystallographic directions ⟨100⟩, ⟨110⟩, and ⟨111⟩. The temperature range 300–1000 K at an interval of 100 K considered to compute these parameters. Direction-dependent GNs provide the valuable information about the anisotropic lattice dynamics and thermal expansion, while the NLPs offer further insights into the anharmonic elastic response of LaS. The comprehensive analysis of these properties provides a deeper understanding of the thermomechanical behaviour of LaS, highlighting its potential for applications in high-temperature electronic and optoelectronic devices.
