ABSTRACT
Our freshwater fish variety is poorly studied. There are no appropriate documents in India’s freshwater fish resources. Due to irrational fishing practices, environmental susceptibilities such as water scarcity, sedimentation, water abstraction and pollution over the years are on the deterioration in this diversity. The cause highlighted characteristics and effects of degradation of this biodiversity. To reserve the diversity and to grow a sustainable fisheries practice in the country, proper documentation for freshwater fish diversity information system is an urgent need. Some components of the database have been suggested for information system development and documentation. This negative event requires a coordinated effort.
